Sweet strawberries, fresh blueberries, kiwi and mandarin oranges make up this fresh fruit salad. It is tossed with a Honey Orange Dressing that only requires two ingredients, which takes the flavor of this fruit salad up a notch. This salad makes for the perfect light, refreshing, delicious appetizer or snack. It can easily be made in just a few minutes.
Growing up I loved when my family would have people over for a summer cookout. My mom would always make a fresh fruit salad, which would usually be the first thing to disappear at our cookout. It was a great way to encourage us as kids to eat more fresh fruit. The combination of all the fruits together somehow made it more fun than just having a single fruit on your plate.
Now I’m a mom, and my kids love fruit even more than I did growing up. This fruit salad highlights some beautifully colored fruits, which makes it appealing to kids and even adults, but truly, you can use any fruit you like. I added a dressing to my fruit salad, just like my mom used to do years ago.
Here’s what you need to know…
This fruit salad is versatile. You can truly use any fruit you have on hand. I like the colors that the bright red strawberry, bold blue blueberry, green kiwi, and orange mandarin bring. Believe it or not, color plays a huge role in what we choose to eat. Reds and yellows are known to be the colors that stimulate appetite the most. The color red grabs peoples attention. Think about a beautiful red tomato, doesn’t that usually cause you to take a second look when you see one growing in your garden?
I digress, this fruit salad is tossed with a simple orange honey dressing. The title says exactly what the dressing is made of – the juice of one orange and honey. Simply whisk these together, then pour over the salad when you are ready to eat it.
Now you can enjoy a fresh fruit salad all summer long that may help you increase your fruit intake. I made this for my boys (the 4 and 2 year old, because the 10 month old can’t eat this fruit yet), and they devoured it!
